簡介
For the most part, the aftermath of a nut shot involves some stabbing stomach pain, doubling over, a (perhaps failed) attempt at revenge, and then you’re back to normal. Like other androsteroids, testosterone is manufactured industrially from microbial fermentation of plant cholesterol (e.g., from soybean oil). This also made it obvious that additional modifications on the synthesized testosterone could be made, i.e., esterification and alkylation. These independent partial syntheses of testosterone from a cholesterol base earned both Butenandt and Ruzicka the joint 1939 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. The chemical synthesis of testosterone from cholesterol was achieved in August that year by Butenandt and Hanisch.
Total levels of testosterone in the body have been reported as 264 to 916 ng/dL (nanograms per deciliter) in non-obese European and American men age 19 to 39 years, while mean testosterone levels in adult men have been reported as 630 ng/dL. In accordance with sperm competition theory, testosterone levels are shown to increase as a response to previously neutral stimuli when conditioned to become sexual in male rats. When testosterone-deprived rats were given medium levels of testosterone, their sexual behaviours (copulation, partner preference, etc.) resumed, but not when given low amounts of the same hormone. Studies have shown small or inconsistent correlations between testosterone levels and male orgasm experience, as well as sexual assertiveness in both sexes. 2020 guidelines from the American College of Physicians support the discussion of testosterone treatment in adult men with age-related low levels of testosterone who have sexual dysfunction. This is known as hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), which maintains serum testosterone levels in the normal range. On average, in adult males, levels of testosterone are about seven to eight times as great as in adult females.
This additional information could suggest, contrarily, that testosterone may encourage greed or selfishness. Moreover, the conversion of testosterone to estradiol regulates male aggression in sparrows during breeding season. A few studies indicate that the testosterone derivative estradiol might play an important role in male aggression. The Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences has found that the use of anabolic steroids (which increases testosterone) among teenagers is correlated with increased likelihood of using violence. It is therefore the challenge of competition among males that facilitates aggression and violence. There has been speculation that these changes in testosterone result in the temporary reduction of differences in behavior between the sexes.
But a young teen with low testosterone levels might be experiencing delayed puberty. The pituitary gland sends a signaling hormone to the testicles to produce more testosterone. Low testosterone levels could be a sign of pituitary gland problems. Chronic health conditions and stress can also reduce testosterone production. The production of testosterone starts to increase significantly during puberty and begins to dip after age 30 or so. If you’re concerned about your fertility or sexual health, evaluation is key. The symptoms of prostate cancer are similar, but you can also feel pain in your bones with the latter.
The prostate contributes the fluid that makes up most of your ejaculate volume and helps transport semen. The prostate is a small, walnut-sized gland found only in men and situated below the bladder and around the urethra. Low testosterone, or "low T," is generally considered to be below 300 ng/dL, but every man has a different baseline. What are signs of low testosterone? A testosterone level above 800 ng/dL is considered high. What are signs of high testosterone in men? Research shows that up to 20% of men above the age of 70 have what's called low T.
